Students from 9F were treated to a delicious formal dinner prepared and served by the VET Hospitality in the last week of term two. 9F students had been learningformal dining etiquette. This included table setting, tying a tie, making small talk, toasting and basic chivalry. Thanks to Mrs Andrea Ford and her VET hospitality student forproviding us with a very pleasurable learning experience.

The transition ambasssador's have been helping the grade fours with Maths. We have been grouped with kids from gade four. In the grade four Mahts call the kids have groups where they do different Maths. They include open-ended tasks, Maths on the computer and Maths sheets. We have been having a lot of fun helping them with Maths. It is great to see their happy faces and this makes us feel good. We can't wait till next week. Bye now.

The Cross Age Tutoring Program is designed to assist students develop their literacy, numeracy and social skills.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Journeys Exhibition on the 17th of June. It was an excellent opportunity for the Year 9’s to share a taste of their learning with the rest of the community. We were grateful that so manypeople were able to come and participate in the day.
Journeys is a Year 9 program where all the students in Year 9 participate in an activity of their choice for the whole day every Friday. The activities are Journalism and Radio, Cooking, Transition Ambassadors, Sports Coaching, Bike Riding, Sculpture, Go-Karts, and Landscaping. At last week’s secondary staff meeting we had a number of Year 9 students present information and ideas about this year’s journey’s program. The students were thoroughly prepared and spoke with great confidence, passion and humour. The staff were impressed with the reflection the students had shown. All the students appear to be enjoying their Fridays are keen to see the program continue. Congratulations must go Erin Bromley, Toni Greenwood, Angel Wings, Allison Stroud, Jacob Glen, Callum Rowe, Stephanie Leirich & Natalie Thorne Lisa Russell and Tiarne Clugston for the way they overcame their nerves and represented the student’s views.

JOURNALISM AND RADIO Journalism and Radio is a small group of students participating in a series of activities around the Centre and community. We write up articles about big stories and events in our community and school. We also work on the community radio. Where 2 to 4 students every Friday from our class go down and guest star on community hour at the radio station goldfields FM. We talk about things happening at MEC and around Maryborough. Soon we a organizing a full page in the Maryborough Advertiser for us to put stories, poems, quizzes, pictures and anything about MEC in it. We have a very creative Bunch of students in this journey. It includes. Tiarne Clugston, Angel Wings, Lisa Russell, Toni Greenwood, Lachy Hickey, Steven Judge, Matthew Argall, (pictured left), Sam Martin, Tash Cam and Mitchell Pearse. Keep a look out for articles in the Maryborough advertiser and in the MEC newsletter from these talented year 9 students.
FOOD & BEVERAGE Food and Beverage student Tonya McKenzie was interviewed by Journalism Angel Wings “In Food and Beverage we make a recipe in the first two periods. In the 3rd and 4th periods we do theory, such as making recipes and filling in our journal book. Period five and six we make another recipe and take a photo of what we made. It’s great!”
GO-KARTS In the Go-karts Journey the kids are working on a dune buggy and some are planning to weld a go-kart frame together. Steven Judge from the Radio & Journalism team asked what they thought of their journey. “It’s cool” replied Chris Christensen. “Yeah its good,” said Chris Evans. “It’s good,” said Lewis Ford.
TOUR DE PYRENEES In the ‘bikes’ journey, students are fixing bikes and making them road worthy. The students are also taking apart the bikes and putting them back together.
Matthew Argall asked some of the students what they thought of the journey. “It’s fun,” said Jordan Rich.
“It’s pretty good,” said Tarran Neill. Matthew also asked the question “Have you learnt anything?”
“I have learnt how to take the bikes apart and put them back together” Jordan Rich replied.
“Yeah I have learnt a couple of things,” Tarran Neill responded.
LANDSCAPING Currently in the Landscaping and Building Journey, the students have been busy concreting and cutting planks of wood for the construction of a new retaining wall out the front of the canteen. Radio and Journalism student, Mitchell Pearse asked a couple of the landscaping students what they thought of their journey program. “It’s a great experience, because we get to go out of class and do things around the school yard.” “It’s fun to do something different.” “It’s challenging but it’s still fun.”
