Last week the Year 3/4 students headed off to Airey’s Inlet for camp. The weather was kind to both groups who had a particularly wonderful time. On the first day the groups were dropped at the beach for lunch before some general exploration and the walk back to camp. Impressively there weren’t too many grumbles on the 3 km walk. After a quiz night and a good night’s sleep it was another walk back to the beach for the day. With a mix of sand sculpture, rock pool exploration, lighthouse climbing, lots of laughter and a terrific hot dog lunch the day disappeared far too quickly. Some very weary feet made the walk back to camp seem very long but again everybody made it. A video of Around the Twist (featuring our lighthouse) rounded the day off. The final day was filled with packing, ropes course, archery, hut building and photo trail completion. There were some very tired faces on the return to school (and that was just the teachers) but a great time was had by all. We congratulate the students on their outstanding behaviour and thank all staff for giving up their time to make the camps possible. We also thank the two parents who came along to help – a job well done.
Over the next two weeks students in Years 3 and 4 will be actively taking part in a Bike Education program in the Centre grounds as part of their topic ‘ Personal Safety – Home and School’. Each class will have 50 minutes each day around Bike Education focussing on bike riding skills and the associated road rules in readiness for the students riding their bikes around the town in the coming years.
We really appreciate the support of all parents in this very important safety program and also our Year 9 ‘Journey’s students’ who are also assisting on a daily basis with this program to make sure we have the students in small groups for teaching. A timetable for each class has been forwarded home with your child so please come along and join in the fun when you can.
As a part of the introduction to our safety topic, the students in Years 3 and 4 visited the Motor-cross track in Alma. Brendan talked to us about the safety gear the riders wear and the regulations that are in place to keep people safe when riding motor bikes. Beau showed us all the protective gear he wears as he put it on, then he, Jesse and Corey demonstrated their skills on the track. Their jumps and other riding skills were amazing.
